The Monitoring and Evaluation Professionals Association of Kenya (MEPAK) was informally established in January 2016 by committed professionals who recognized that many African countries, including Kenya, had not fully achieved the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) that concluded in 2015. A deeper analysis revealed that countries which made significant progress had effectively used data to drive development, inform targeted interventions, and monitor performance.
MEPAK was officially vetted by the National Intelligence Service (NIS) and formally registered in 2018 under the Office of the Attorney General, Department of the Registrar, in accordance with the Societies Act (CAP. 108), Laws of Kenya.
With the global shift to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030, this professional community acknowledges that the SDG agenda is broader and more complex than the MDGs—integrating elements such as sustainability, equity, and social inclusion. As such, governments, programmes, and projects face increasingly dynamic and turbulent environments, requiring a new way of working. MEPAK members have actively advocated for evidence-informed policymaking, mentored institutions on strengthening M&E systems, and participated in national, regional, and international platforms to share findings and best practices.
MEPAK understands that, like the SDGs, its goals can only be achieved through a multi-stakeholder approach. The association collaborates with the public and private sectors, civil society, academia, researchers, scientists, think tanks, and development foundations.
